COVID-19 Pandemic Statement
On March 16, Indiana-Kentucky Synod Bishop William O. Gafkjen released a statement strongly encouraging member congregations to cancel or postpone in-person events to prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. In support of this recommendation, Gethsemane Lutheran Church has decided to cancel all congregational activities for the foreseeable future.
As worship is a large part of our community, we will continue to conduct worship and faith formation activities online via Zoom video conference service. You can request meeting information either by e-mailing the church's information request e-mail address email@example.com or by calling 317-509-4870. The liturgy for each week will be posted on our Sermons and Prayers page.
Isolation of social distancing can lead to loneliness so it is vital that we keep communicating through texting, emails, Facebook, and the like. Members should continue to check in with one another, share concerns and needs. Our community doesn't dissolve because we are not meeting face-to-face.
Pastoral needs can be communicated by leaving a message with the church's telephone line (317-357-7369). Messages will be checked regularly.
Members are asked to continue making offerings (remembering that our offerings are to God and not to our budget). You can set up automatic payments through your bank.
Remember that God is with us always. In the words of the psalmist:
God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult.
Psalm 46:1-3 (NRSV)
